All of the above paintings are acrylic. Most are on canvas but a couple are on cardboard or heavy paper.
My "String Series" paintings are based on rubbings of violin, guitar, and bass strings.
I lay canvas over the strings and use a brayer and paint to capture the impressions of the strings. The strings create the skeleton of the composition as I work into the negative areas to explore the abstract shapes.
Exploration of Shapes and lines: organic versus rectilinear; color: bright versus muted;
Feminism, nature, infinity, skating, vertigo, music, and desires are some of the themes that I've been working with over the past decade.
All Paintings are Copyright Elizabeth Marston Meyer
